Hello to All!
I have a couple of upcoming events in April and May that I wanted to share with my community if you have any interest.
April 25th:
WRITERS IN COLOR MEETUP
I have been asked by Lighthouse Writers Workshop to support on a session on critique groups. This event is with Writers in Color so it is for BIPOC individuals.
Please note: This Meetup will be held virtually on Zoom.
Looking to connect with other writers of color in an intentional and consistent way that also supports your writing practice? Join us every month for our Writing in Color meetups! This program was created to connect writers of color in Colorado and beyond with fellow creatives so we can celebrate our work and encourage each other along the way. Writing does not have to be a solitary act. At Writing in Color, you'll be reminded of the importance of being in community with other writers who just get it.Each month we'll come together as a community of BIPOC+ writers to discuss the craft of writing, respond to generative prompts, get inspiration from guest facilitators, and simply enjoy existing as creatives together.
April Meetup: Have you been wanting to join or start your own writing critique group but don't know where to begin? For this month's meetup, we'll come together and learn about the ins and outs of critique groups from Writing in Color and Lighthouse faculty member, Nyasha Williams. We'll also try out a basic critique model for ourselves! If you'd like to try out having your own work critiqued, bring a piece of your writing that is no longer than 1,000 words. Please plan to bring 3-4 copies of your piece that can be shared with your fellow Writing in Color attendees.
April 28th:
SHELF CARE: PICTURE BOOK CLUB FOR ADULTS
I am beyond excited to announce that I will be able to facilitate a book club for adults centered on picture books. I will be running the club at Petals & Pages.
Join Nyasha on the last Sunday of each month at Petals & Pages for engaging discussions on children's literature. In our club, we delve into the magical world of picture books, with a special focus on works by BIPOC and local creators. Together, we read and critically analyze a different children's book each month, exploring its themes, characters, and illustrations. Our goal is to appreciate the beauty of these stories while also identifying areas for growth and expansion.
This club is perfect for those who have a passion for picture books and are eager to broaden their perspectives. If you love discovering new voices and stories in children's literature, this is the place for you. Let's come together, share our insights, and celebrate the enchanting world of picture books in an inclusive, and brave space.
Join us for enriching conversations, eye-opening discoveries, and a celebration of diverse storytelling. We can't wait to embark on this critical expansion literary journey with you!
