What is a Writing Critique? A writing critique involves reviewing your manuscript with a focus on various elements such as structure, character development, pacing, and overall narrative flow. My goal is to help you identify strengths and areas for improvement to elevate your writing. Areas of Focus Decolonizing: Working to recognize and dismantling colonial narratives your writing. Indigenizing: Offer insights into representing Indigenous cultures, traditions, and perspectives authentically. Assessing whether the work honors Indigenous voices and stories without appropriation. Liberation: Working on themes of empowerment, resistance, and social justice. Critiques will examine whether a manuscript fosters liberatory practices and narratives, encouraging a deeper understanding of systemic issues. Authenticity: Stress the significance of authentic representation. Critique will involve us evaluate characters, settings, and plots to see if they genuinely reflect the experiences and voices they claim to represent. Structure & Organization: Analyzing the overall structure of your piece to ensure it flows logically and effectively engages readers. Character Development: Providing feedback on character arcs, motivations, and authenticity to create relatable and compelling characters. Dialogue & Voice: Assessing dialogue for naturalness, consistency, and contribution to character development, alongside helping to refine your unique voice as a writer. Pacing & Tension: Offering insights on the pacing of your story, ensuring that tension builds effectively and keeps readers invested. Clarity & Style: Helping to enhance the clarity of your prose while refining your writing style to resonate with your intended audience. How It Works 1. Initial Consultation: We’ll discuss your project, goals, and any specific areas you want feedback on. 2. Submission of Work: You’ll submit your manuscript, and we’ll agree on a timeline for feedback. 3. In-Depth Review: I will read through your work thoroughly, providing detailed comments, suggestions, and critiques. 4. Feedback Report: You’ll receive a comprehensive report highlighting key points of feedback, along with actionable suggestions for revision. 5. Follow-Up Session: Optional follow-up session to discuss feedback, clarify questions, and brainstorm next steps.
