Manuscript Sensitivity Read
Service Description
What is a Sensitivity Reader? A sensitivity reader reviews written content to identify and address potential biases, stereotypes, and cultural inaccuracies. My role is to provide feedback on character development, dialogue, and thematic elements to ensure that the portrayal of diverse experiences is nuanced and respectful. Areas of Expertise Decolonizing: Working to recognize and dismantling colonial narratives your writing. Indigenizing: Offer insights into representing Indigenous cultures, traditions, and perspectives authentically. Assessing whether the work honors Indigenous voices and stories without appropriation. Liberation: Working on themes of empowerment, resistance, and social justice. Sensitivity reads involve examining whether a manuscript fosters liberatory practices and narratives, encouraging a deeper understanding of systemic issues. Authenticity: Stress the significance of authentic representation. We will evaluate characters, settings, and plots to see if they genuinely reflect the experiences and voices they claim to represent. Cultural Representation: With my background living between the United States and South Africa, I bring insights into both African American and South African cultures and experience. Queer Perspectives: As a bisexual woman, I offer valuable insights into LGBTQ+ narratives and experiences. Mental Health & Neurodiversity: Understanding the complexities of neurotypical and neurodivergent experiences allows me to provide thoughtful feedback on mental health representation. Culinary Arts and Education: My experience as a qualified chef and educator informs my understanding of community dynamics and cultural practices related to food and learning. How It Works 1. Initial Consultation: We’ll discuss your project, goals, and any specific concerns you may have regarding representation. 2.
